I've never tried script-writing. As a teen, I remember reading a book by David Gerrold on how he wrote a script for a popular "Star Trek" episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles." At the time, I thought the book was really good, an insightful guide to the biz. Might be worth checking out, though I'm sure it's dated.
I remember that book! It was a great read, because he was such a fan of the show before he wrote for it. His excitement at being a part of the magic was genuine and easy to share. Also, Tribbles is one of my favorite episodes.
